A 25-year Virginia Honor Band

As one of the most visible organizations at James River High School, The Regiment Marching Band performs at all home football games and competes in competitions around the state every year. This award-winning group places in every competition it attends and has received multiple Superior Ratings at the VBODA Marching Assessment.

Testing the Waters

In 2026, we are looking forward to "Testing the Waters". Written by the combined talent of Mr. Kunka, Mr. Donnell, and Mr. Burzumato, this show uses water as a powerful metaphor for taking risks, overcoming fear, and diving headfirst into the unknown. Visually and musically, the program transitions from cautious hesitation to an all-out, immersive celebration of confidence.

Every fall, the James River Regiment takes the field with a brand-new show. Many of our productions are original works composed by Director Steven Kunka himself. From the energy of New York, New York to the wonder of Beyond the Stars, our students pour months of hard work into every performance.
