Wind Ensemble

The James River High School Wind Ensemble is the premier, audition-only performing group composed of woodwind, brass, and percussion students who are primarily upperclassmen. Students selected for Wind Ensemble play a wide range of pieces, ranging in difficulty from Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors’ Association (VBODA) Grade IV to Grade VI level sheet music.

The ensemble performs several concerts throughout the school year and works towards achieving a “Superior” rating at the VBODA State Assessment. All Wind Ensemble performers are required to individually audition each year for the VBODA All-District Band.
